Ernest Hemingway - Assignment #1

We were walking through town on a Sunday afternoon, looking through the windows as we saw a pet store. There were puppies looking at us through the windows, staring, waiting for us to walk up to them. There were various types of puppies, some big, some small. They had their paws up against the window, licking it, and their tails were wagging.
“Mommy! Lets go inside, I want to see the puppies!” she said, begging her mother, “Please!”
“Okay, but just for a little bit.”
They go inside and the little girl sees a really cute puppy. On the glass window of its cage, it says it is a Pug.
The little girl says with excitement, “Mommy! I want this one!”
“No, I don’t think that’s such a good idea,” said her mother.
“But Mommy, this one is my favorite! I really want to get her! Please mommy, ill do anything!”
“Do you think you are responsible enough to take care of her?” her mother asked with concern.
“Mommy, I promise to take care of her! She is so cute, and I already named her!” she explained.
“Okay, lets get her. What have you decided to name her?” asked her mother.
“Pinky!”
Then we left the pet store, with Pinky and her new pink leash and went home.

Nice job Kelly. You model Hemingway's use of clipped dialogue and spare diction well.

Watch your point-of-view consistency-you being in first person and then transition to third person once the dialogue begins.
